• What is Compounding?

  Compounding is the process of preparing custom formulation of medication using high grade raw materials to meet unique patient needs that cannot be met by commercially available medication.

• What are some of the benefits of Compounding?

  One of the major benefits of preparing compounds is allergy-friendly, easier to take or commercially unavailable/discontinued medication.

  • Adjust strength of medications for required dosages that differ from the standard drug strengths.
  • Avoid unwanted ingredients such as dyes, preservatives, lactose, gluten or sugar.

• What kind of prescription can be compounded?

  Almost any prescription. Compounded medications are great for patients who require an alternative administration method or a unique dose, flavor, formulation or combination.

• Is the pharmacy open to the public?

  Despite the fact that Medical Place Health Solutions is a pharmacy, our facility does not provide any retail services. However, we welcome anyone to make an appointment and visit our facility and observe how some compounds are prepared.

• How long does it take for a compound to be prepared?

  Depending on the complexity of the compound and the availability of the raw ingredients, compounds take anywhere from less than 24hrs to 48hrs to be prepared. We aspire to prepare the required compounds as soon as we can since medication initiation is our utmost concern.

• How much does it cost for my compounded prescription?

  The cost of your compounded medication will depend on several factors. They can include the type of ingredients, equipment and the conditions and the time required. Once the prescription is received, we will provide the patient with a quote. We work with all our patients to ensure we can facilitate cost effective access.

• Is my compound covered by my private insurance or public plan?

  Some compounds are covered by private/public plans. This is determined once we receive the patient’s insurance information and prescription. Based on the information provided, the patient will be contacted to be informed of coverage status.

• Which products can be compounded?

  Prescribers can authorize compounded formulations when their patient would benefit from a formulation or combination that is not commercially available. You can also prescribe for products that are unavailable due to drug shortages.

• How do I write a prescription for a compounded medicine?

  Compounded medications have the same requirements as any other prescriptions. To order a compounded medication for your patient, we need the following information:
  
  

  • Patient Name and Contact Information
  • Name of the active ingredient(s)
  • Strength of the active ingredient (mg, mg/mL, %)
  • Dosage form (solution, transdermal cream, suppository)
  • Quantity to dispense
  • Directions for use
  • Date and Prescriber Information
